Food Variety

Food Variety: We all eat bread, fruits, vegetables, chapattis, rice, wheat, vegetable oil, pulses etc. Infact, anything we eat to live is called food. We can define food as follows: Food is any substance eaten by human beings or animals to do work, grow, develop, maintain our body and remain healthy. Food is the fuel for our body. We must eat food to stay alive. Non living things can survive without food. As food is precious so we should not waste food in any way.

We eat different types of food at different times, this is called food variety. Different people eat different types of food depending on their availability, habits and taste. We all eat different kind of food every time. There are variety of food items like puri, dhokla, rice etc. They are made up of different raw materials. Some people may depend on wheat products like bread and chapattis, some may eat vegetables and fruits and some may depend on rice products like kheer, idli etc. The food items which are prepared are made up of more than one kind of subsatnce, known as ingredients. Boiled rice are made up of raw rice and water. Chapattis are made up of two ingredients: flour (atta) and water. The food we eat comes from both plants and animals. Thus plants and animals products are our source of food.

A dish of dal can be made using many ingredients like pulses, salt, spices, oil water etc. Oil means cooking oil which includes groundnut oil, sunflower oil, etc.
